- ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU → OUARZAZATE → DADES GORGES
Your tour begins with a pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech. The route heads south over the High Atlas, passing traditional Berber villages and stopping at the finest viewpoints for photos.
Lunch is served in the village of Ait Ben Haddou, where you’ll have time to explore the ancient kasbah — a UNESCO-listed fortified village that has appeared in many internationally famous productions.
After a short drive to Ouarzazate, with the option to visit Africa’s largest film studio, the road continues through the Valley of Roses to the Dades Gorges. There you’ll see the spectacular “monkey fingers” rock formations and panoramic views of the gorge before checking in to your hotel for the night.
Approximate driving distance: 353 km
Approximate driving time: 6 hours 30 minutes
DAY 2: DADES GORGES → TODRA CANYON → MERZOUGA DESERT
After breakfast, the drive continues along the Dades and Todra rivers — green ribbons of palm groves and Berber villages running between the mountains. Your first stop is the Todra Gorge in Tinghir, one of the most dramatic canyons in the world, where you’ll walk beneath its towering cliffs.
The route then continues to Merzouga. On the way, your guide may suggest an optional stop at a traditional Berber shop where you can try on Berber clothing and take photos at no cost. There’s no obligation to purchase anything, and you’re welcome to skip the stop entirely.
On arrival in Merzouga, a camel ride takes you into the Erg Chebbi dunes for sunset and sandboarding. As night falls, you’ll arrive at your luxury desert camp for dinner, drumming around the campfire, and an unforgettable night beneath the stars.
Approximate driving distance: 275 km
Approximate driving time: 4 hours
DAY 3: FULL DAY EXPLORING THE MERZOUGA DESERT
An early wake-up is rewarded with a glorious sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, a 4×4 SUV takes you into the desert to meet a nomadic Berber family living beyond the sand, where your guide will share insights into their unique culture. You’ll also visit the hidden village of Mefis, listen to traditional Gnawa music in Khamlia, and — if the water is full — stop at the Lake of Birds.
After lunch, you’ll check in to a charming riad overlooking the dunes. The afternoon is yours to relax — take a swim, rest, or stroll out to the nearest dunes for another sunset. Dinner and an overnight stay at the riad follow. If you’d prefer to spend another night in the camp instead, just let us know.
Approximate driving distance: 57 km
Approximate driving time: 1 hour 15 minutes
DAY 4: MERZOUGA DESERT → AGDEZ → MARRAKECH
After breakfast at the riad, the return drive to Marrakech begins. Today’s route follows the scenic Draa Valley — Morocco’s longest — with a stop in Agdez for a panoramic view of the valley’s vast palm groves.
Lunch is served in Ouarzazate before the road climbs back over the High Atlas Mountains and descends to Marrakech, where your driver will drop you off at your accommodation.
Approximate driving distance: 560 km
Approximate driving time: 9 hours
