PRIVATE MARRAKECH TO FES DESERT TOUR 3 DAYS

PRIVATE TOUR — PRIVATE MARRAKECH TO FES DESERT TOUR 3 DAYS

OVERVIEW

This 3 Days Marrakech to Fes Desert Tour is a classic crossing of Morocco — from the red city of Marrakech, through the dramatic landscapes of the south, out to the Sahara, and finally north to the ancient imperial capital of Fes. Along the way you’ll cross the High Atlas, explore the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, walk beneath the towering cliffs of Todra Gorge, ride camels over the Erg Chebbi dunes, and sleep in a luxury desert camp beneath a billion stars.

It’s the most balanced way to experience both the Sahara and the route between Morocco’s two most famous cities in just three days.

Every itinerary is fully customisable to suit your preferences and pace.

DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU → OUARZAZATE → DADES VALLEY

Your driver picks you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech around 8:00 am. The road heads south through the High Atlas Mountains, with photo stops at panoramic viewpoints and charming Berber villages.

Lunch is served in Ait Ben Haddou, where you’ll have time to explore the ancient fortified village — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and a filming location for many internationally famous productions.

The journey then continues to Ouarzazate, where you can optionally visit one of Africa’s largest film studios, before driving on through Boumalne and the scenic Valley of Roses. On arrival in the Dades Valley, you can optionally stop at the “monkey fingers” rock formations before checking in to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Approximate driving distance: 353 km
Approximate driving time: 6 hours 30 minutes

DAY 2: DADES VALLEY → TINGHIR OASIS → TODRA GORGE → MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast, the drive continues to Tinghir, with a panoramic stop overlooking a lush palm oasis dotted with old kasbahs. You’ll have time to walk beneath the towering 300-metre cliffs of the Todra Gorge, carved out by the Todra River.

On the road to Merzouga, your guide may suggest an optional stop at a traditional Berber shop where you can try on Berber clothing and take photos at no cost. Any purchases are completely optional, and you’re welcome to skip the stop entirely.

You’ll arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon. Your luggage will be taken ahead to the camp by 4×4 while you ride camels into the dunes. From atop a high dune, you’ll watch a fiery sunset over the Sahara before continuing on to your luxury camp. Dinner, Berber drumming, and a long night under the stars round out the day.

Approximate driving distance: 310 km
Approximate driving time: 5 hours

DAY 3: MERZOUGA DESERT → ZIZ VALLEY → MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS → IFRANE → FES

An early wake-up is rewarded with a spectacular sunrise from the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you’ll return to the town of Merzouga by camel or 4×4 and set off north toward Fes.

The route follows the Ziz Valley, with a panoramic stop above its long ribbon of palm groves and villages. Further north, you’ll cross the Middle Atlas — keep an eye out for Barbary macaques in the cedar forests near Azrou. A short break in Ifrane, the “Switzerland of Morocco”, provides a good spot for coffee before the final stretch.

You’ll arrive in Fes in the late afternoon, where your driver will drop you off at your accommodation.

Approximate driving distance: 500 km
Approximate driving time: 7 hours 30 minutes
