9 DAYS CASABLANCA TO MARRAKECH WITH A FULL DAY IN THE SAHARA
- OVERVIEW
PRIVATE TOUR — 9 DAYS CASABLANCA TO MARRAKECH WITH A FULL DAY IN THE SAHARA
OVERVIEW
The 9 Days Morocco Itinerary adds one of the most valuable extras the country offers: a full day dedicated to exploring the Merzouga desert. Alongside the classic north-to-south route through Casablanca, Rabat, Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Meknes, Fes, the Todra Gorge, and Ait Ben Haddou, you’ll spend a full extra day in the Sahara — visiting a nomadic family, hearing Gnawa music in Khamlia, and exploring hidden corners of the desert that most tours never reach.
Nine days is the sweet spot for travellers who want both depth in the cities and real time in the desert.
Every itinerary is fully customisable to suit your preferences and pace.

- ITINERARY
DAY 1: CASABLANCA ARRIVAL AND CITY TOUR
On arrival at Mohammed V International Airport, you’ll be met by our team for a city tour of Casablanca, including a visit to the iconic Hassan II Mosque. You’ll have time to soak up the atmosphere of the city and enjoy your first Moroccan meal before settling into your hotel for the night.
Approximate driving distance: 36 km
Approximate driving time: 1 hour
DAY 2: CASABLANCA → RABAT → CHEFCHAOUEN
The drive heads to Rabat, where you’ll explore the Hassan Tower and the Kasbah of the Udayas. The route then continues north into the Rif Mountains to Chefchaouen, the famous “Blue City”. On arrival, you’ll check in to your riad and settle into the town’s peaceful atmosphere.
Approximate driving distance: 342 km
Approximate driving time: 5 hours 21 minutes
DAY 3: FULL DAY IN CHEFCHAOUEN
A whole day to explore Chefchaouen at your own pace. Wander the narrow blue-painted lanes, browse the markets, photograph the hidden corners, or settle in at a café and watch the town go by. The 15th-century kasbah and the walk up to the Spanish mosque (for panoramic sunset views) are highlights worth adding to your day.
DAY 4: CHEFCHAOUEN → VOLUBILIS → MEKNES → FES
After breakfast, the drive heads south through the Rif countryside to Volubilis, once a thriving Roman city with remarkable 3rd-century mosaics. From there, the route continues to Meknes — a 17th-century imperial capital — where you’ll explore the medina, the famous Bab el Mansour gate, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail after lunch. The day ends in Fes at a beautiful riad.
Approximate driving distance: 260 km
Approximate driving time: 4 hours 30 minutes
DAY 5: GUIDED TOUR OF FES
A full day in Fes with a local guide. You’ll begin at the Royal Palace gate before entering the UNESCO-listed medina. Along the way you’ll visit Al-Qarawiyyin University, the Al-Attarine Madrasa, the Nejjarine Fountain, and the Chouara Tanneries. You’ll also explore the Mellah (Jewish quarter) and end the day with a panoramic view of the medina from an old fortress.
DAY 6: FES → IFRANE → MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS → ZIZ VALLEY → MERZOUGA DESERT
After breakfast, the drive south to the Sahara begins with a short break in Ifrane. The route crosses the Middle Atlas with a stop in the cedar forest, where Barbary macaques are often seen. Lunch is served along the way before the road follows the Ziz Valley and its palm groves to the desert.
You’ll reach the dunes in the afternoon. A camel trek takes you into Erg Chebbi for a spectacular sunset from a high ridge. On arrival at your luxury camp, a private tent with its own bathroom is waiting. Dinner is followed by drumming, Berber music, and a long night under the stars.
Approximate driving distance: 500 km
Approximate driving time: 7 hours 30 minutes
DAY 7: FULL DAY EXPLORING THE MERZOUGA DESERT
Wake up early for the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, you’ll return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4. The day begins in the village of Khamlia, where the local musicians — whose roots trace back to Sub-Saharan Africa — play traditional Gnawa music. The route then continues off-road to M’Fis, an abandoned village once home to galena mines (galena was historically used to make kohl).
You’ll then visit a nomadic family living near the dunes, sharing tea in their traditional tent and learning about their way of life. After lunch, you’ll check in to a charming riad with a pool. In the late afternoon, you can try quad biking or buggy driving at sunset, or walk out to the dunes for a quieter experience. Dinner and an overnight stay at the riad follow.
Approximate driving distance: 57 km
Approximate driving time: 1 hour 15 minutes
DAY 8: MERZOUGA DESERT → RISSANI → TODRA GORGE → DADES GORGE
After breakfast at the riad, the drive heads to the Dades Gorge. On market days (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday) you can visit the traditional souk in Rissani. The route continues through the Todra Gorge for a walk beneath its towering cliffs, then on to the striking “monkey fingers” rock formations at the entrance to the Dades Valley, with panoramic views along the way before you check in to your hotel.
Approximate driving distance: 310 km
Approximate driving time: 5 hours
DAY 9: DADES GORGE → OUARZAZATE → AIT BEN HADDOU → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → MARRAKECH
The final day begins with a drive to Ouarzazate, with an optional visit to the Atlas Studios. The route continues to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou — a UNESCO World Heritage Site used as a backdrop for many internationally famous productions. After lunch, the road climbs over the High Atlas Mountains with photo stops along the way, before descending into Marrakech in the late afternoon.
Approximate driving distance: 353 km
Approximate driving time: 6 hours 30 minutes
