This 3 day tour packs an incredible amount of Morocco’s diverse landscapes into a short timeframe. Beginning in Ouarzazate, the journey heads east through the towering cliffs of the Todra Gorge before reaching the Sahara dunes of Merzouga. Here, you will spend two nights in a luxury desert camp, allowing a full day to explore the Erg Chebbi region by 4×4, visit nomadic families, and experience the local Gnawa music. The final day crosses back through the Draa Valley and over the High Atlas Mountains, with a stop at the iconic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, before concluding in Marrakech.

DAY 1: OUARZAZATE → TODRA GORGE → MERZOUGA

Your tour begins with an early morning pick-up from your accommodation or the airport in Ouarzazate. The drive takes you east to the Todra Valley, where the Todra River has carved a grand canyon with high red cliff sides. You’ll have free time to wander through the gorges and appreciate the stunning landscape.

Afterward, the journey continues through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, with a stop for lunch along the way. By afternoon, you’ll reach the Sahara desert of Merzouga. Here, you’ll switch to camels to cross the sandy dunes, pausing at a high vantage point for a magical sunset. You will then arrive at your luxury desert camp, where you’ll enjoy Berber drum music around the campfire and dinner under a vast sky of stars. Overnight at the camp.

DAY 2: FULL DAY IN THE MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast, the day is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga Desert (Erg Chebbi) and its surroundings. A 4×4 takes you off-road to an old kohl (eyeliner) mine, followed by a visit to nomads in their traditional woven tents, where you will learn about their way of life over a cup of Berber tea.

Next, you will head to Khamlia, a village renowned for its Gnawa music, performed by residents whose roots trace back to Mali, Sudan, and Niger. Following a free lunch at a local restaurant, the afternoon includes a stroll through a palm grove and a visit to the seasonal wild lake of Merzouga (often called the flamingo lake). Return to your luxury camp for dinner, campfire drumming, and a second night in the desert.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA → AIT BEN HADDOU → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → MARRAKECH

On the final day, after an early breakfast, you will leave the desert behind. The drive westbound includes stops for viewpoints and café breaks before returning to the Ouarzazate area for a lunch stop.

In the afternoon, you will visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a striking fortified village that has served as a backdrop for numerous films, including Gladiator and The Mummy, as well as Game of Thrones. Finally, the journey ascends the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass before descending into Marrakech, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation or the airport. Driving times don’t include stops for lunch and sightseeing.
Dietary preferences (vegetarian, vegan, allergies) can be accommodated — please mention this when booking.
Prefer not to ride a camel? A 4×4 will take you into and out of the camp at no extra cost.
Your main luggage is transported to the camp by 4×4 while you ride camels.
If the long drive back to Marrakech on Day 3 feels too much, the tour can alternatively end at Errachidia airport (a 2-hour drive from Merzouga), where domestic flights to Marrakech are available.
